Carter heavy

It's been a little while since I posted last. We've been pretty busy and the boys are on alternating nap schedules so I hardly ever have more than 20ish minutes of "alone time." This post is probably going to be "Carter heavy" in the picture department, but he's just go so much going on now that school is starting.

I guess I'll work backwards on my timeline. Yesterday was the Open House type thing at Carter's preschool. He got to play in the classroom with some of the toys, not everything was set out which seems hard to believe when you see how packed the room is. He loved it. They have an aquarium with fish and a terrarium with plants and pretend frogs, worms and lizards. He has 9 girls and 2 other boys in his class, with two teachers. The lead teacher, Mrs. Hewitt came by the house last week to introduce herself to Carter; he's been talking about her ever since. Here are some pictures of his classroom and one of his schedule that's on the wall. They stay pretty busy ...

Here is Carter playing around in Parker's old Rockets jersey. I took this so I could send it to Danny, who is a huge Rocket's fan. Oh, and his Mom is considered "stable" and has been moved into hospice in Nashville. For those that didn't know, his mom was diagnosed with kidney cancer about a month ago and took a quick turn for the worse and ended up in ICU. He's keeping us updated via Facebook, but this isn't something she's expected to recover from. They are focused on keeping her comfortable and spending time with her.

We had Cole's baptism scheduled for this past weekend, but with Danny's mom's condition worsening we have postponed it. But Nana, Papa and Sissy had planned on coming in from Abilene anyway so we had a long weekend of family time. Here is Nana playing with Cole.

Parker took Carter to feed the ducks the other day. There was a GINORMOUS turtle there. It was the largest turtle I've ever seen that wasn't in a zoo. The ducks kept pecking at it, they didn't want to share the bread that the boys were serving up.

Here's the aforementioned turtle

Cole was a very cute onlooker.

Cole is working on being a "good eater." He really wants to hold onto what ever he's eating, obviously baby food isn't a finger food. Now that he's aproaching 8 months I can introduce some dairy and that will help. But in the mean time we're trying other things. This picture was after Mom had been giving him some turkey (which he seemed to like) and she switched to roast beef pieces, which he didn't much care for.

Here's Carter doing his crab walk. We like to get out all his small animals and play "zoo." Then we try to walk like the animals would.

We also spend alot of time outside. Here are the boys getting the water out of the baby pool. Cole started it, it was hilarious. He turned over and tried to get out of the pool and then noticed that if he layed on it, all the water would rush around him. He enjoys the water. We just finished the Baby Splashes class at the swim club and now Cole is moving to the actual swim lessons. Carter is taking a little break this month and will probably start again in October. He'll be in a different class with a new teacher. He's been promoted out of Ms. Kara's class. I know he'll miss her.

What's not in the pictures is all the other stuff we keep busy with. We went to the Butterfly Exhibit at the Natural Science and History museum. I ended up joining that museum so we can go back for free. Carter liked the dinosaurs, but the butterflies were my favorite. They are amazing. We also go to K2 Academy and play around on the trampolines, balance beams and other fun gymnastic toys. We've been spending a ton of time at Mom and Dad's house; Brian and Carter seem to be permanent fixtures in their swimming pool. Mom is working hard on getting the yard in shape. They have an armadillo that has torn up the yard quite a bit looking for worms. Carter had fun digging in the garden for worms to put in the armadillo trap. They haven't caught him yet, but the hunt goes on.
Both boys are kinda sick right now. Cole has an ear infection, but after 3 days of antibiotics he's much better. Carter has the cold that caused Cole's infection, but I'm trying hard to keep Carter from getting an infection. We'll see how that works ...
I know there is a ton more that has gone on in the past two weeks, but I just can't recall it all. Maybe I'll get better at updating the blog like I used too.

Big Week

We had a couple big events this week. Cole turned 7 months on Thursday and Brian & I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary on Sunday. Mom and Dad watched the boys while we went to a movie at Studio Movie Grill. That's a great to place to watch a movie because you can have drinks and dinner at the same time. Perfet combo for those parents on a clock. Then we came home and watched Carter play in the sprinkler and pool in the backyard. Very relaxing. We (or should I say Carter) popped in the wedding DVD. I can't believe Carter knows how to work the DVD player. Anyhow, it was nice to see the video again. What a great day that was.
Here are some cute pictures of Cole this week. One is of Grandmama holding him and the other is after bath time last night. Can you believe how blue and beautiful those eyes are?

And here are some pictures from my cell phone of Carter's antics lately. We got his haircut on Tuesday and here he is showing it off afterwards. Yes, he is in the drivers seat of my car - he loves to "drive for a little bit." Yep, that's exactly what he says, "Mommy, I want to drive for a little bit, okay?"

Here's one of the tents we made this week in the living room. I used to have so much fun with my cousins, Ian, Parker and Erica, at their house during the summers when we made tents/forts out of every blanket, towel, pillowcase we could find in Sissy's house. It seems Carter is taking a liking to them as well. It was the only thing that would calm him down after Grandma and Grandpa left last night. He threw a fit when I wouldn't let him go over there for the evening.
And here are Brian and Carter with sno cone tongues. We've been frequenting the local shaved ice place lately. Brian gets sour blue raspberry and Carter gets sour grape. And I get to hold off Cole from trying to steal theirs!

Kids Say the Darndest Things ...

Carter to Brian, "Daddy, is this your wallet?"
Brian - "Yes, it is'
Carter - "Where's your money?"
Brian - "I don't have any"
Carter - "Mommy has it?"
Brian, controlling his laughter, - "Yeah, that's what happens when you get married"

I was in the play room overhearing this conversation and I was laughing so loud. Brian has a money clip on his wallet, so its easy to tell when there is and isn't money it. Guess he's used to seeing some dollar bills in there. Too funny not to share.

Pajama Time

My kids rarely "need" much of anything, but Carter has a real shortage of pajamas that fit. So I went out this afternoon (sans the boys) to Baby Gap and indulged the urge to buy matching jammies. And much to my surprise they had construction PJs with excavators on them. Side note, that was Carter's first 4 syllable word. Anyhow, I couldn't wait to see how cute they looked in them. And cute they are. Look at those blue eyes!

I took several, but never once could I get them both to look at the camera. However, Carter decided he wanted to play photographer and took one of Cole. Not bad, this is Cole's "thinking pose" ...

And here's a cute photo from last week when Cole woke up early from a nap and decided that Daddy's arms were MUCH more comfy than his crib. Can't say that I blame him.

I have to give a shout out to Matthew and Allison (my bro and sis-in-law) they did a half marathon in Denver yesterday. This was Matthew's first - YEAH for him.
And another shout out to Brendon and Stacy (Brian's bro and sis-in-law) they tied the knot last week in Vegas. That's where they met so it was fitting. Congrats to y'all.
Well I'm utterly exhausted and finally out of excuses not to go to bed before 9, so off to bed I go. I have a huge headache, probably from the stress trying to convince my almost 7 month old that he can NOT have what I'm having for dinner. He won't eat baby food. He wants whats on my plate, but lacks the teeth and the skills to eat it. This has been going on a week now, a few more days of this may warrant a call to Dr. Hayes. We'll see.
Nighty night ...

My Parents House

I was downloading pictures from my camera and forgot that I had taken a few of Mom and Dad's house since the remodel was finished. Mom still has window treatments to install and pictures/art to put on the walls, but you can see the cabinets, flooring and such in here ...
